Zall Tandoori Takeaway, Bedminster Review

The Zall Tandoori takeaway in West Street, Bedminster delivers to satisfied customers all around the area and beyond; quality Indian food with plenty of choice, direct to the comfort of your own home, a great boon when your day has been rubbish, there’s nothing in the fridge, it’s raining and you’re too tired to trek out to the late-night-shop. This was just such a night for us and we road-tested their set meal for two : onion bhajis with cucumber raitha and mixed salad, chicken tikka, chicken tikka masala, lamb dopiaza, sag aloo (spinach and potatoes) poppadoms times two, a big pillow of naan bread, and pilau rice. Also included in the price of £26.50 is chips and a 1.5 litre drink but as the day had been such rubbish we’d decided to have two beers (these were in our fridge) instead so left both the chips and drink off the order.

We collected from the shop and it was very nicely packed in hot trays and even the crunchy and brittle poppadoms survived the journey home. We popped everything in the oven to keep hot and tucked into the onion bhajis first; they were enormous, frazzle fried and most satisfyingly crunchy dipped in the cooling cucumber raitha sauce.

The main course kept very well in the oven; the chicken tikka was the highlight I think, moist pieces of tandoor chicken cooked to perfection and nicely spiced. The lamb dopiaza was good too, tender chunks of lamb with the tasty sauce just right for dunking the naan bread. All in all, this was exceptionally good value; we couldn’t finish everything and could easily have entertained a third guest, so if you are ravenously hungry this is the choice for you!
