Marco Pierre White Steakhouse is synonymous with quality. Driving towards its Bristol home at the Doubletree by Hilton at Cadbury House, we knew we were in for a treat.
We chose to sit in the Garden Room, where we could admire the sweeping views across the countryside, all the way to Wales, and enjoy the buzzy atmosphere. There’s also an al fresco dining terrace, which must be incredibly popular on sunny days, and an elegant main restaurant room. We dined à deux but saw several large tables of family groups enjoying celebratory meals – MPW Steakhouse is equally well suited to both.
I sipped a deliciously crisp Gavi while my husband enjoyed a refreshing seasonal mocktail. The menu is broad, with signature grill dishes alongside seasonal specials, so you can come back time and again and always find something new. To start, I opted for the hearty French onion soup topped with thick croutons and even thicker gruyère. My husband chose the summer special of meatballs on toasted garlic sourdough, served with rich tomato sauce and aged Parmesan. Both starters were generous in size and packed full of flavour.
My main course was the seasonal special of pan-fried monkfish tail served with cockles, petit pois à la Française, and nut brown butter. The fish was delicate and perfectly cooked, a real show-stopper of a dish. The signature fillet steak with garlic king prawns, confit potato, and rich, creamy Béarnaise sauce called to my husband, who devoured every bite.
For dessert, we went the classic route, sharing a sticky toffee pudding – which came with extra toffee sauce – and an Eton Mess. The Eton Mess was packed full of sweet meringue and fresh fruit, and the sticky toffee pudding was as indulgent as they come.
The service throughout our meal was attentive and professional – the team really knows their stuff. From start to finish, our experience at Marco Pierre White Steakhouse was a delight. We’re looking forward to returning in autumn for some warming seasonal specials and wintry cocktails.
