With a plethora of hotels and restaurants in Bristol serving afternoon tea, it’s often difficult to know which one to try next. It is something so stereotypically British that it is often on the top of people’s lists for birthdays, special occasions, and long overdue catch-ups. So when I pondering how to celebrate my upcoming 60th with my mother and long term friends there was one obvious choice that stood head and shoulders above the rest…
For afternoon tea lovers, The Harbour Hotel Bristol undoubtedly reigns Queen for glamour and sophistication, The Harbour hotel is an impressive building, formally home of two nineteenth-century banks. Showcasing period features paired with trademark Harbour design. The afternoon tea was served in the Harbour Kitchen Restaurant. Comfortable and plush seating with beautiful surroundings made it feel very special.
When it comes to the food, you’ll find the tiered cake stands abound with flavoursome treats, such as Winter Berry Tart, Pistachio Macarons, Custard Filled Chocolate Éclairs and Victoria Sponge. The finger sandwiches are traditional and delicious and include favourites such as Prawn Cocktail, Truffled Chicken mayonnaise and Smoked Salmon & Avocado. The Harbour hotel offers a range of afternoon teas, from cream teas to Champagne afternoon teas. As a prosecco lover we plumped for the Sparling afternoon tea and at only £33 per head it was extremely great value. The waiter informed us that in December they offer a Festive Afternoon Tea and I will certainly be returning for that. The details of the festive afternoon haven’t been announced yet but I will be keeping an eye on the website for further details.
Service at The Harbour Kitchen is as attentive as always, and no sooner have you taken your first bite when you are asked whether or not everything is OK. For an afternoon tea that is special, glamorous, and delicious in historical surroundings, you simply can not beat The Harbour Hotel, and they even offer Vegan and Vegetarian afternoon tea options too.
If you are looking for a celebration or just an excuse to get together with friends and family the afternoon tea at Harbour Hotel will not disappoint.
