I recently had the pleasure of enjoying a Sunday lunch at the Curious Kitchen located in the Aztec Hotel in Bristol, and I must say it was a delightful experience from start to finish. The Sunday lunch carvery format at The Curious Kitchen is a “help yourself” to all the variety of all the different and delicious dishes available. Great when you are not sure what starter or dessert you want as you can have them all!
The atmosphere in the Curious Kitchen is warm and inviting, with modern yet cosy decor with high beamed ceiling that sets the perfect backdrop for a leisurely Sunday meal. The open layout, and large windows allow for plenty of natural light, creating a relaxed vibe that enhances the dining experience. The restaurant was full of lots of different groups of people including families, friends and couples. In the corner of the restaurant was a singer with a beautiful voice gently singing modern and classic love songs. This really made the day feel extra special.
Now, onto the star of the show: the food! The Sunday lunch menu features an impressive carvery selection that truly showcases the best of traditional British fare. For starters, you can help yourself to dishes such as salads, breads, fresh flaky large sausage rolls, pate, prawns, Salmon. Each dish was fresh and very tasty. (I will warn you the portions are very generous and you can help yourself but don’t over do it as you need to leave space for the main event). For mains you are served from the carvery a choice of meats carved from the joint. We had a choice of ham, beef or turkey (or all 3) I opted for the roast beef from the carvery station, which was perfectly cooked—tender and juicy, served with all the classic accompaniments: fluffy Yorkshire pudding, creamy mashed potatoes, crispy roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables, cauliflower cheese and rich gravy. The gravy was served in a gravy boat to your table which I thought was a brilliant idea as you always want a bit more.
My partner chose the roast turkey, which was equally impressive. The skin was crispy, and the meat was succulent, complemented beautifully by the accompanying sides. The carvery station also featured a variety of sauces and condiments that added an extra layer of flavour to the meal.
For dessert, again the choice was incredible, and you can help yourself to as much or a little as you wish. You can chose from classics such as cheese and biscuits, chocolate fountain with strawberries and marshmallow (a big hit with the kids) profiteroles, cheese cake, meringue, cakes and fruit.
In summary, Sunday lunch at Curious Kitchen in the Aztec Hotel is a wonderful way to spend a leisurely afternoon. The variety of food means that whoever is in your party they will find something they love. Whether you’re looking to celebrate a special occasion or simply enjoy a hearty meal with family or friends, the carvery menu and the overall dining experience ticks all the boxes. I highly recommend it!
