Bristol’s Avenue Café celebrates 25 years – A local treasure still brewing strong

Avenue Café, one of Bristol’s most beloved independents, is turning 25 this September, and we’re raising a cup (and probably a slice of cake too!) to celebrate a quarter-century of flavour, friendship, and community spirit.

From our humble beginnings in Queen Square back in 2000, Avenue Café quickly became a hidden gem in the heart of Bristol. Over the years, we expanded to multiple locations in
Henleaze and Emersons Green, before returning full circle to our flagship home in Emersons Green, a vibrant, leafy setting that captures everything we stand for: great food, warm service, and genuine community connection.

And here’s the best part: we’ve made many lifelong friends along the way. In fact, some of our very first customers from 25 years ago are still with us today, supporting, sipping, and sharing life’s little (and big!) moments at Avenue Café.

That loyalty means the world to us. “We’ve been through it all,” says founder Costas Kkolos. “Trends come and go, but what never changes is the joy of a perfectly brewed coffee and a welcoming smile.”

In a time when so many independents have sadly disappeared, Avenue Café stands proud as proof of the power of community, consistency, and heartfelt service. To mark this special milestone, we’re inviting both long-standing friends and new faces to join us in celebrating throughout September, with a line-up of treats and events.

Avenue Café is more than just a café, it’s been a backdrop to 25 years of stories, laughter, and everyday magic. From catch-ups with friends to first dates, family milestones to quiet moments with a book, it’s been our privilege to be part of your lives.
