Description
Bristol Dockyards is the home of ideas that changed the world. A thriving harbourside destination, we bring the radical spirit of Brunel and Bristol to life through all-year-round cultural programming, charitable work and four defining experiences:
- The SS Great Britain Experience, where visitors can discover new passenger stories in our interactive museum before climbing aboard the world’s first great ocean liner in her original dry dock, to imagine transatlantic life at sea in 1843.
- Being Brunel Museum. An immersive introduction to the visionary behind the innovation, go inside the mind (literally) of one of Britain’s greatest engineers.
- The Brunel Institute. Housing over 75,000 original drawings, letters and items in one the world’s finest maritime archives.
- And the Historic Dockyard itself. A cultural campus of learning, research, community, connection and conservation slap bang on the banks of Bristol.
If you're feeling brave, Go Aloft! Climb the SS Great Britain's rigging 25 metres into the sky, for the ultimate birds-eye view of Bristol.
Support Us
The SS Great Britain has lived more lives than most. An ocean liner, a cargo ship, a coal hulk… and today, the centrepiece of the Bristol Dockyards. Around her, the SS Great Britain Trust continues to inject life into the history, engineering and creativity that defines this wonderful place.
Every ticket you purchase goes towards keeping the remarkable SS Great Britain alive - sharing stories, celebrating heritage and inspiring the next generation of young engineers and brilliant thinkers.
