Guided Nature Walk
A 2.5 hour Nature Walk to explore the hidden wildlife and landscapes of the Mendip Hills National Landscape!
What are the Nature Walks?
Our Nature Walks are seasonal guided walks exploring the hidden treasures of the Mendip Hills National Landscape. Taking place on Mendip Activity Centre's 250-acre site, these walks offer the chance to slow down, look closer and discover wildlife, plants and habitats across ancient woodland, rolling grassland and historic quarry landscapes.
When do the Nature Walks take place?
Nature Walks run from 9.30am to 12.00pm at various times throughout the year.
The 2026 dates include:
Thursday 9 April - Spring in the Woods
Saturday 18 April - Spring in the Woods
Thursday 18 June - Summer in the Meadows
Thursday 15 October - Mushroom Meanders (identification only)
Saturday 24 October - Mushroom Meanders (identification only)
Who can take part in the Nature Walks?
These walks are generally suitable for anyone aged 12+. The routes include steep paths and uneven ground where access may be limited. Read more about accessibility or get in touch if you would like to discuss suitability in more detail.
How do the Nature Walks work?
Each walk is led by Nathan Orr, Nature Recovery officer for the Mendip Hills National Landscape. You will explore a variety of habitats while learning about seasonal changes, local ecology and the wildlife that calls this landscape home. The pace is relaxed, with plenty of time to stop, observe and ask questions.
Where do the Nature Walks take place?
The walks take place at Mendip Activity Centre, set within a 250-acre estate in the heart of the Mendip Hills National Landscape. This diverse site includes ancient woodland, species-rich grassland and historic quarry features, making it a haven for wildlife and ecology.
Important Information!
Please wear suitable footwear and clothing for walking on uneven and sometimes steep terrain.
Mushroom Meanders are identification only. We will not be picking mushrooms.
Sessions last approximately two hours.
These are outdoor activities and will run in most weather conditions.
