About The Grand Appeal
The Grand Appeal, the official Bristol Children’s Hospital charity, is committed to saving the lives of sick children and supporting their families. In 2010, The Grand Appeal created Cots for Tots to support and raise vital funds for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at St Michael’s Hospital in Bristol.
Together, both causes share a single vision for the future: ensuring every sick child and baby across the South West has access to the very best medical care, 365 days a year.
A 30 Year History of Impact
The Grand Appeal was founded in 1995 with a single mission: to raise £10 million to support a new building for Bristol Children’s Hospital. 30 years later, the charity has generated approximately £90 million. Beloved characters Wallace & Gromit continue to spearhead The Grand Appeal’s fundraising initiatives, bringing an extraordinary blend of creativity and innovation to the cause.
Throughout three decades, The Grand Appeal’s mission to support the children’s hospital in Bristol has stood the test of time.
How The Grand Appeal Supports Sick Children and Families
With public support, The Grand Appeal invests in key areas across the hospital:
- Family Accommodation: The Grand Appeal provides an extensive portfolio of free accommodation for families while their child receives treatment at the hospital.

Looking forward, The Grand Appeal’s next major project will see the development of a new Patient Hotel (the first of its kind in the UK for sick children), which will be fully funded and operated by The Grand Appeal.
